An Unexpected Journey

I don't know how many of you are Lord of the Rings fans, but they are my all-time favorite movies.  Have been for many years.  So I was very excited about The Hobbit coming out in December, and the movie didn't disappoint!

I hope you all went to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey because it was amazing!!!  If you are a book purist you might not appreciate it as much as I did, but I thought Peter Jackson did a great job!  And the costumes were awesome, especially Bilbo and Thorin's.

We went to the midnight premiere (my first midnight movie!) and so a lot of our group decided to costume.  Unfortunately I didn't get my Eowyn vest completely finished, but I wore it - unfinished as it was - with my friend's Padme` nightgown.

I'll do a better and more detailed post when it's finished, but here's a close up of the embroidery, which is about a fifth of the way done.  :)

I'm hoping to get my costume finished soon so it will be done long before The Desolation of Smaug comes out next December.  Hopefully we'll have no more of this last minute rushing!

Brown Suede

I went to Hobby Lobby yesterday.  That store is dangerous for anyone that wants to keep any of their hard earned money.  Part of me really, really wants one in my town, but part of me thinks that I'd be broke if that happened...  I still want one.  :oP

Anyway, I went to Hobby Lobby and happened to find some lovely brown suede that will be perfect for my Eowyn vest!

Oh, I haven't told you what I officially decided about my LotR costume?  I've decided to do Eowyn's Shield Maiden Dress - starting with the vest.  (That way if I don't have enough time for the whole thing I can borrow a friend's Padme` Coruscant nightgown as a make-shift under dress.)

Now I need to do some more research so I can get to work!  :o)

Oh, and I'm sorry I've been so shamefully absent recently, ya'll.  I've really missed blogging!

The Hobbit

I’m a huge Lord of the Rings fan and am very excited about The Hobbit coming out this December.  The LotR trilogy has some of the most stunning fantasy clothing ever, and The Hobbit promises to have an incredible wardrobe as well.

I just love Biblo's vests that we've glimpsed so far.  Hobbits wear such earthy yet cheery clothes.

With plans in the works for a trilogy party to celebrate the new LotR movie, I need to remedy the fact that I don't currently own a LotR costume!  Knowing me, I need to start soon if I want it to be done for December...

There are so many gorgeous gown to choose from!  Right now I’m considering Eowyn’s shield maiden gown (even though she’s not in The Hobbit, it’s still LotR, right?), but I haven't made a final decision.  I don't think I will until I'm at the fabric store and see my fabric options.  :o)

I can't wait to see this movie!

Hat Inspiration

I tend to be a sucker for hats and right now am feeling inspired to wear them more often.  They can add such a cute touch to an outfit, instantly transforming it from basic to adorable.

Some of my main inspiration has been MJ in Spiderman 2, Sarah in I Am Number Four, Claire in Elizabethtown, and recently Gwen from The Amazing Spiderman.  (I’m not necessarily recommending any of these movies, you can find reviews here)  They all manage to look so sweet and trendy, pairing them with everything from graphic tees to cardigans to dresses.  They really add something to an outfit!

Looking at these and other photos have really put me in the mood to knit, hence the hat I started a couple days ago.  I'm planning to do a fair amount of knitting in the near future so as to improve my skills to the point of fulfilling my dream to knit myself a long sweater...  :o)

Casting On

Recently I've been very inspired by lots of adorable hats - so even though I should be working on my quilt or cross stitch, I began a hat last night.  :o)

I'm basing this hat off one of Sarah's in I Am Number Four (review here).  I didn't love the movie, but Sarah always looked very cute and I completely fell for her slouchy hat.

So I started a search for a pattern like hers.  Surely someone on Ravelry would recreate it, right?  But alas, I have been unable to find one, so I'm attempting to make it up.  I'm borrowing the shaping from the All Day Beret (the pattern I used for the last hat I made), and am really hoping it turns out well!

Tomorrow I'll be back with some more hat inspiration!  :o)

Dawn Treader

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader came out on DVD and Blu-ray yesterday! The Narnia movies are some of my absolute favorites, so I'm very excited! :o)

They have some really gorgeous costumes in these films. The vintage ones are so cute, and I love fantasy costumes!

Aren't the buttons up the side of Susan's dress delightful?

I really like the buttons on Lucy's coat, too.

This blouse reminds me a lot of Susan's Train blouse from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe...

It's a shame they don't have more costume changes in this one, though it does make sense with the story... still, I would have liked to see a Narnian girl costume, cuz those are usually my favorites. :o)

I really like the deleted scene that talks about Lucy having to wear Caspian's boy clothes. So funny. :o)

And for an ending side note, isn't the quilt on the bed beautiful?

Audrey Hepburn in Charades…

…wears some of the cutest coats! I love how her coats are always slightly longer than her dresses; it’s just so retro and cute! :o)

I love brightly colored coats like this red one! She's wears some of the cutest hats, and even though I’m not really into leopard print, I think Audrey pulls it off well.

But this gold coat has to be my favorite. Isn’t it adorable? I love the black accessories! :o)

And I just love her last outfit here with her little white hat and gloves. So vintage!

40's Fashion Fun

We’ve been watching some Foyle’s War recently (review here), and I was very much looking forward to the episode “War Games” with Emily Blunt. I had heard that her costumes were beautiful, and I wasn’t disappointed!

I still haven’t figured out what the print on the above dress is, but it’s very cute. She also has lovely hair styles, particularly her up-dos. (Though I didn’t get any good pictures. Maybe I’ll do a hair post someday featuring her…)

They had such cute clothes in the 40’s! :o) Her character keeps bees, too, which was a personal inspiration, cause I’m getting ready to study-up on bees for when we get them in the spring. :o)

I think the above dress might be my favorite, and maybe one day I’ll recreate it (or make something similar). The fabric is so darling, and I love the ruffles and buttons! It has ties in the back, too, and I love dresses with pockets! :o)

So that’s my little rant of the day. Hope you enjoyed!

Crusoe

I first heard about Crusoe on Anna's blog and was very interested. It is a television show based on Robinson Crusoe and is simply amazing!

Naturally, it is mainly on the island, but there are many sequences about England. In these Crusoe's wife - Susannah - is featured wearing her beautiful clothing!

I recently made a cape partly based off Susannah's and will be sharing notes on that soon... But in the meantime here are some of her other lovely dresses.

Someday I might do a costume study on this show, because it is one of my absolute favorites! But for now I'm just sharing some photos and highly recommending it!
