My marmalade square blocks are going together wonderfully! At least, they were until I realized I hadn't cut out quite enough squares... Just a little cutting and I can finish the last block!
These are really fun and easy! Makes me want to try a postage stamp quilt. :)
And look who my cat brought home with him the other day:
Literally, my (boy) cat walked inside our house and right behind him walked in this kitten. He is so adorable, and very friendly. Kittens are absolutely delightful!!!

Ring Of Stars Quilt
My Ring Of Stars quilt is finally finished!
As I mentioned in my binding post, I was motivated by Moda's Quilt Olympics to finish so I could enter. My sisters joined me to get it done Friday... And we did it! But they had already taken down the competition. :( Oh, well. I'm still grateful for the inspiration, and I'm so happy that my first quilt is completed!
It is a queen sized quilt and doesn't have a single machine stitch in it! I even hand sewed the binding pieces together! It was fun, but I'm planning to machine piece my next quilt. And do something a little smaller, too. ;)
It was a super fun project, and I'm so pleased with it. (And as you can tell, my cats love it!) I have quilter's callous' on 4 fingers and am already starting 2 other quilting projects, so I think I'm officially addicted to quilting!

Now to repaint my pink furniture, hang stuff on the walls, and complete the redecorating!

Snow, Kitties and Quilts
We have several inches of snow right now and it's beautiful. Perfect for snuggling in a blanket with an adorable kitty.
Because it's been so snowy I haven't been out as much as normal. I kept thinking, "More time to sew!"
But somehow I kept getting distracted. I would walk into the sewing room with big intentions but end up on a cleaning/organizing spree for the next few hours. Our sewing/laundry room looks better, but the skirt I wanted to work on is not any closer to being done...
The only sewing I've managed is finishing the quilting part of our bed quilt. (Little happy dance!) :) Only the binding left until it will be completely finished!!!
With this quilt so close to completion, I've been daydreaming about my next quilting project. I'm all about quilts right now, which may or may not be related to my recent discovery of the Moda Bake Shop. So much fun inspiration!

See the little stars quilted in the middle of every pieced star? :) |

Dress Beginnings
While trying on some dresses as Old Navy I found one I really liked, but would have preferred it to be a little longer on me. So I decided to make my own!
New Look 6936 was almost exactly what I wanted, but the sleeves weren't quite right and I wanted the waist to be closer to my actual waist instead of empire. My mom had a vintage 70s pattern in her sewing stash that had a perfect sleeve shape, but I didn't particularly care for the neckline options. So I decided to be brave and try to combine the two patterns to get the look I want.
After an evening of drafting, I think the two combined rather well! I'm hoping it goes together quickly and without mishap so I can wear it to a conference next weekend. :)
Now if this little guy would just move off my fabric so I can sew... Who am I kidding? I'll let him sit there as long as he wants. :)

Grey Pleats
For about two years now I've had this image in my mind of a skirt... a grey pleated skirt. Oh, how cute it would look with colored tights! Or that new sweater I just bought. Or those boots...
Then someone gave a us a huge amount of grey... I don't know what kind of fabric. But now my skirt would be practically free!
So when I needed some cute skirt outfits to wear to a conference last month it was time to actually make the skirt! My sister had used New Look 6566 (I can't find it on Simplicity's website... sorry!) to make a couple of pleated skirts that turned out really nicely, so that was the pattern I used.
Making the pleats was a little time consuming, but not difficult. The only thing that has caused me trouble at all is getting the pleats to stay ironed in... But I think I'm starting to figure it out. Just use lots of heat. :)
I love this skirt! It's such a perfect neutral color that goes with so many things!
(Oh, and we had a lot of fun with this book photo shoot! Though getting our cat Schubert to stay on the book pile was quite a chore... haha)
